Coastal Carolina Regional Airport Reflects on a Strong 2024
EWN to Celebrate Breeze’s One Year Anniversary and Increased Capacity on American Airlines in 2025
New Bern, N.C. (Feb. 5, 2025) – Coastal Carolina Regional Airport (EWN) is ready for a big year in 2025, building on a record-breaking 2024.
“This past year was a great success for the airport along with the community we serve,” said Airport Director Andrew Shorter. “We had a record summer travel season, with increased service by American Airlines and Breeze Airways creating two new nonstop destinations, amidst our continued terminal improvements that will position us for even greater success in 2025.”
Breeze Airways’ one-year anniversary at EWN will be celebrated in May 2025, highlighted by their portion of a 41% overall increase in passenger traffic in 2024 as they connected travelers to their nonstop destinations of Hartford, Connecticut and Orlando, Florida.
Also, in early 2025, American Airlines will introduce a dual-class aircraft to its daily service at EWN. These larger planes will not only enhance passenger comfort, but also reflects American Airlines’ ongoing commitment to the region.
“The new aircraft shows how much confidence American Airlines has in our market,” said Shorter. “It’s great news for travelers and for our growing region.”
According to a recently-released The State of Aviation report from the NC Department of Transportation (NCDOT), Coastal Carolina Regional Airport supported 2,145 jobs, generated more than $20 million in state and local tax revenue, and created an economic output of $346 million for the region.
Statewide, airports contribute over $88 billion annually, which is 11% of North Carolina’s GDP, according to the report.
“We are proud to be part of our community, not only for the access to air travel but also by supporting good jobs and creating significant state and local economic impact,” said Shorter. “As we prepare for a strong 2025, we’re ready to keep growing and supporting the community.”
“Eastern North Carolina is growing fast, and Coastal Carolina Regional Airport is a big part of that success,” said Owen Andrews, Chairman of The Craven 100 Alliance (C1A). “At C1A, we work to grow Craven County’s economy by investing in infrastructure, real estate, and local businesses. EWN’s progress shows how much potential our region has.”
With a strong holiday travel season capping off 2024, Shorter said EWN is ready to build on its momentum.
“As we look to 2025, we’re excited about what’s ahead,” he said. “From Breeze Airways’ continued success to American Airlines’ increased capacity and the completion of our terminal expansion in 2025, EWN is ready to reach new heights.”
