Marine Corps Base Camp Lejeune is home to more than 47,000 Marines and Sailors. A 246-square-mile military training facility, the base's 14 miles of beaches make it a major area for amphibious assault training, and its location between two deep-water ports allows for fast deployments.

Lejeune Memorial Gardens is home to a number of memorials that honor beloved veterans and civilians who lost their lives in war zones around the world. The park contains the Onslow Vietnam Veterans Memorial, the Beirut Memorial, the Montford Point Marine Memorial, and the 9/11 Memorial Beam.

Enjoy a day at the beach at several nearby beaches. Just a short drive from Jacksonville, head for Onslow Beach, Surf City, Topsail Island, Hammocks Beach State Park, and more. Swimming, Fishing, Kayaking, Water Sports — it’s all there waiting on you.

The New River features some of the best paddling and fishing in eastern North Carolina year-round. The slow current is ideal for kayakers and canoers of any skill level. There are multiple public water access areas in Jacksonville.

Freedom Fountain stands at the gateway to downtown Jacksonville and honors those who have passed through Onslow County while in service to our country. The fountain design has many features meant to represent the 5 armed services, the federal, state, and local governments, and 50 states.

Tour Walton's Distillery, a craft distillery making Moonshine, Whiskey and Bourbon by blending local moonshiner traditions with Kentuckian distillery methods. See how it's made in the functioning moonshine still and taste test all of the various flavors.

Lynnwood Park Zoo is 10 acre animal park with a lovely pond and a popular picnic area. Established in 1990, the zoo is the only park of its kind in the area and features more than 80 animal exhibits, with a large range of species – mammals, reptiles, birds, and others.
