Greenville

The Greenville Museum of Art features exhibits from its permanent collection of 19th and 20th Century American art and traveling exhibits from local, regional, and national artists. The museum offers art classes and workshops, and hosts wonderful events throughout the year.

There are many opportunities to enjoy the great outdoors in Greenville. The Greenville Greenway offers space to walk, run, and bike. The Bicycle Post Mountain Bike Trails offer off-road bicycling experiences. And the Tar River, Contentnea Creek, and other waterways are perfect for paddling.

Get new perspective on our ancestors through exhibits of the tools and equipment they developed, as well as the area’s plants, animals and geology. Areas of the museums also explore the history of the Tuscarora Indians, and North Carolina's first Surveyor-General who was executed by the Tuscarorans.

The Catechna Indian Village, on the banks of Contentnea Creek at Grifton, N.C., is a scaled-down replica of an Indian village located just across the street from the Grifton Museum. During annual festivals like John Lawson Days, volunteers  demonstrate lifestyle skills of the Native Americans who lived here.
